The BSPF create a need for speed!
The 2016 President’s Weekend was hosted last weekend ( 9 – 11 September) by Alex Kemsley (BSPF President & BISHTA Chairman) and his partner Nicole Tingley and took place where the Spirit of Brooklands lives on. The location is set in the historical surroundings of the first purpose-built motor circuit, constructed at Weybridge, Surrey by wealthy landowner Locke King in 1907. Brooklands is the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, the home of Concorde, Mercedes-Benz World, the Brooklands Hotel and the site of many engineering and technological achievements throughout eight decades of the 20th century. A fantastic setting for the BSPF President’s Weekend with lots to see and do, especially for thrill seekers and transportation enthusiasts!
The President’s Weekend is a chance for members to join the current President for a celebration of their year in office and meet up with industry peers in an informal setting.
This year’s attendees all got the chance to see, touch and feel all of the latest models at Mercedes-Benz World and learn about the companies unique history as well as the opportunity to take the wheel for a breath-taking Mercedes driving experience. To culminate the weekend pre-dinner drinks took place at the Brooklands Museum, with a champagne reception and simulated flight on Concorde, followed by dinner in the atmospheric surroundings of the Stratosphere Chamber with entertainment from the Nightingales singing duo all adding to the 1940’s evenings theme.
Our thanks go to everyone who supported the President’s Weekend; If you would like to see a taster of the weekend, you can view the President Weekend album on the SPATA and BISHTA websites.
Watch out for the 2018 Presidents Weekend, hosted by Will Dando; more details will be available at SPATEX 2017 on the BSPF Stand.
Hosted by BISHTA and SPATA, The British Pool & Hot Tub Awards highlight the achievements of the wet leisure industry, by showcasing the best examples of design, construction, installation and innovation from trade association approved companies and the Awards provide a platform to drive press and consumer interest for the UK’s Wet Leisure and Wellness Industry.
For the third year, the gala awards evening took place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, alongside SPATEX (celebrating its 20th Anniversary), the UK’s leading and largest Wet Leisure and Wellness Exhibition. The awards evening is open to the whole industry, giving visitors and exhibitors to SPATEX the opportunity to extend their stay to enjoy the show and attend the gala evening.
The evening was hosted by Rob Malone, supported by Richard Carrington (BSPF President and SPATA Chairman) and Alex Kemsley (BISHTA Chairman) to present the awards along with the awards category sponsors. The awards evening began with the re-presentation of the ISPE 2015 awards by the ISPE’s President, John Cheek.
A fantastic night started with pre-dinner drinks, with a three-course dinner, followed by entertainment from variety guest duo, the Harper Brothers. Back by popular demand, the Photo Booth returned to capture candid shots for guests to take away as a memento and the night continued until late with a disco.
The SPATA and BISHTA awards provide a fantastic opportunity for the industry to come together, providing not only a great night, but an opportunity to promote the awards far and wide. In business terms, it’s a chance to network with industry peers, where new contacts and business relationships are begun. Ultimately, the awards are an important platform to showcase the best available hot tubs, spas and swimming pools, raising the profile of the wet leisure industry (as a whole) driving awareness to UK consumers. It’s never been a better time to join BISHTA/SPATA, working together to give our industry a stronger voice!
Chris Hayes, Managing Director of both BISHTA and SPATA, commented, “We congratulate all the winners of this year’s British Pool & Hot Tub Awards. We set a high standard for our judges from across both the pool and spa industry to score each entry on visual impression and technical merit. This means that an award won at the British Pool & Hot Tub Awards is very well deserved, and ownership of at least one awards stands as a strong endorsement to consumers of the standard of work a winning company offers”.
Each year, the outstanding quality of submissions creates stiff competition. The high quality of the entries provides a fantastic opportunity for showcasing what members can do for their customers and reinforces why it is so important to choose a BISHTA or SPATA member to turn a dream into a winning project. The publicity generated from the awards evening helps to promote consumer awareness, to create demand for products and services to kick start the New Year”.
With BISHTA representing 111 specialist hot tub companies, and SPATA representing 173 pool companies, there is the added bonus that BISHTA and SPATA winners are also eligible to be entered into the EUSA European Pool and Spa Awards, which helps with further promotion of the industry across Europe.
Celebrating Industry Excellence in 2015
We report on the prestigious European Pool & Spa Awards
and showcase the winners in each category
The third European Pool & Spa Awards hosted by the European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations (EUSA) took place in the opulent surroundings of the Palacio de Pedralbes (a former Royal Palace) on Wednesday 14th October, during the Piscina & Wellness exhibition in Barcelona. The awards had five categories, with eleven winners announced across the 13 countries that comprise EUSA.
EUSA represents over 3,000 swimming pool and spa companies across Europe, and so the competition was of the highest standard. The awards are judged by top industry professionals representing each of the EUSA members. With such superior standards, understandably tensions were high in anticipation of the results, with the invited audience cordially acknowledging each of the winners as they were announced, securing their places as the 2015 industry leaders.
Being judged a winner by the leading industry voices of the Pool & Spa Associations across Europe, is important recognition for every award recipient. Each of the UK award recipients was able to gain entry to the European awards by previously winning either a BISHTA or a SPATA award (as part of the British Pool & Hot Tub Awards).
SPATA members, London Swimming Pool Company, were overjoyed at their gold award win in the Domestic Spas category, Horsham based company, Home Counties Pools and Hot Tubs also lead the way with a gold award in the Domestic Above Ground Pools category. Lancashire based company Portrait Pools & Enclosures won bronze in the fiercely contested Domestic Indoor Pools category and BISHTA members, and Surrey based Falcon Pools scooped Silver in the Domestic Hot Tubs category. Award winners visited the Piscina & Wellness Exhibition, Barcelona to collect their awards with BSPF managing director Chris Hayes in attendance.
Chris Hayes commented, “These are wonderful results for our members, and we are pleased that they have received this well-deserved recognition. We are very proud that our members won 4 of the awards that were presented. The judges had some tough decisions to make, with a shortlist of 79 entries across five categories”. Hayes continues: “This year, seven countries provided entries, and seven countries judged the categories. “The exemplary work displayed by our members and those of the other relevant National Associations defines the industry and celebrates the exceptional standards of all of our respective members and their professionalism. I am sure that consumers across Europe can be secure in the knowledge that a company in a national association who are members of EUSA are a business to trust and who provide superior standards”. The current development of European standards for domestic pools and spas will reinforce this desire for safety and performance to become uniform across the Continent.
Founded in 2006, EUSA is registered in Brussels and spearheaded by the current President Philippe Bach. EUSA’s objective is to strengthen and coordinate the spirit of European unity among all its members and to be the voice of craftsmen, the trade, wholesalers and the wet leisure industry across Europe.
Best of British in European Pool & Spa Awards
The accomplishments of the UK winners in Europe are testament to the hard work of each company, the existence of EUSA and the combined support of its member countries which has an immense impact on the wet leisure industry. The message is clear in providing wet leisure companies across Europe with a unique way of celebrating their achievements.
The London Swimming Pool Company won a Gold Award in the Domestic Spa category, for their spa, which was part of a larger swimming pool installation. Jamie Smith from the London Swimming Pool Company commented: It’s a huge honour to be awarded gold at the European Pool and Spa Awards. The entries were judged by top industry professionals with exacting standards, so receiving this accolade means a great deal to our company and highlights the passion that our team puts into every project. We have seen an increase in the number of people wanting the whole ‘wellness’ experience and they are having spas, saunas, steam rooms, hammams and even ice rooms installed in their homes.”
Another gold award was won by Home Counties Pools and Hot Tubs, in the Domestic Above Ground Pools category. Craig Trusson of Home Counties Pools and Hot Tubs said: “We are thrilled with our European win. To be highlighted in the EUSA awards alongside such strong competition across Europe is a significant acknowledgement for our company and our entire team.”
The silver award went to Falcon Pools in the Domestic Hot Tubs category, Ian Storr of Falcon Pools, said: “We are delighted to be recognised at the 2015 EUSA awards. This recognition is a testament to the hard work of all the team at Falcon Pools, taking home an award in the Domestic Hot Tubs category from EUSA is a great acknowledgement for us.”
Andrew Rutherford from Portrait Pools & Enclosures, who won a bronze award in the Domestic Indoor Pools category said: “We are delighted to have received such a prestigious accolade at the EUSA awards.
Being recognised in the top three by Europe’s leading industry voices, who represent some of the worlds most respected Pool and Spa Associations is an amazing achievement. The end product we produce is a real team effort, and this award is dedicated to all of our team. I am sure they are as proud as I am to be flying the flag for the UK Pool industry.”
