Have Your Say on Domestic Pool Water Standards

Following the release of some draft European Standards, SPATA is urging the industry to have its say on the documents, as they will affect domestic swimming pool water standards not only in the UK, but across a total of 33 countries in Europe.

SPATA has been working tirelessly at home and abroad with colleagues on the British Standards (BSI) Committee responsible for swimming pools to have the pool industries voice heard on the development of standards for domestic pool water filtration, circulation and treatment.  Richard Carrington, SPATA’s Chairman paid tribute to SPATA’s Technical Committee for their hard work and tenacity and in particular, the work of Patrick Thorpe.  “Patrick has attended every meeting in Europe to ensure that the standards are developed in a way that supports the pool industry and wherever possible, is in line with SPATA Standards.  It is vital that the industry makes its voice heard on the content of these standards”.

Each of the documents has been given its own unique reference details (EN 16713 Parts 1 to 3). The first of the three standards covers the topic of filtration (EN 16713-1), the second part covers circulation (EN 16713-2) and the third part deals with treatment (EN 16713-3).

The documents are available to purchase at a discounted price and can then be downloaded from the BSI website (SPATA members will need to order via SPATA) and any feedback can be sent back to BSI directly using, although SPATA will also be collating an industry response to the documents, so please send your comments to and include “EN 16713 feedback” in the subject box.

The consultation period closes on 3rd August 2014, so make sure that you have your say.

The meeting to review the comments that are generated from around Europe on these new standards is being held at the BSI offices in London during September 2014.
